Radar Key
Here is a key to the radar icons that may pop up from time to time. If you have problems reading it, click on it and it should bring up a larger image.
Also, the radar will show warnings. Red boxes are severe thunderstorm warnings. Purple boxes are tornado warnings. Green boxes are flood warnings. Occasionally, there will be large rectangular boxes covering a LARGE area; these are Watch Boxes, and blue is severe thunderstorm watch, while red is tornado watch
Please Note*
ICONS ARE NOT ALWAYS CORRECT! Just because there is a TVS it does NOT mean for certain there is a tornado. Tornado may be completely non existent, even rotation may be non existent. However, when it shows up correctly, the icon can indicate tight, low level rotation
Just because there is a mesocyclone icon, it does NOT mean there is a tornado! All these icons are meant to do is give a general idea of what is going on. Even at that, an icon can show up even when there is no mesocyclone. The icon may be correct, it may be incorrect.
GR3 images may be anywhere from 5-10 minutes behind the actual time, so look at the time stamp to see what time the radar image was uploaded. Also, radar will only be updated when I am running the GR3 program, so radar data will NOT always be on! BE SURE TO CHECK THE TIME STAMP! Time is in UTC (GMT or Zulu) time.
